The story of how we met and our first date isn't necessarily a dramatic or Hollywood story. It's special to us and I love retelling it between Adam and myself.
About three years and four months ago, I fell into the lap of my now husband. This was not a pathetic excuse to pick him up, I was literally shoved into his lap - in a not-so-graceful-I-hope-I-didn't-just-squish-you kind of way. We were out with our own friends at a downtown Peoria bar and I stayed to chat and apologize. A brief chat with Adam and his buddy, Danny, turned into about 90 minutes of laughing with a little flirting. Then...my heart sunk - they were leaving to head to another bar. Our hands brushed as he left the bar (in sweatpants, I might add - yes, Adam was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt at a downtown bar). WTF!? He didn't even get my number!
I briefly mentioned it to my girlfiriends - I was bummed he left and there would be no chance of me to get in touch with him again. Except when his friend, Danny, walked back in the bar about 30 minutes later.
"Did he do something wrong?" Danny asked.
"No! You can give him my number!"
It wasn't even another 10 minutes later that Adam and I were texting back and forth. I had a crush!
Two days went by with practically no contact. I was still thinking about him and was telling my friend, Annie, about him and showing her the texts we shared that night. I really hope he calls. Literally, at that moment, my phone lit up and it was him! He called! We went on a date and another and another.

My 1st birthday present to Adam - 10th row Yankees vs White Sox tickets...I still joke that this sealed the deal with him falling in love with me. hehe
Fripp Island, SC - June 2008
Even knowing the fact that I was moving about three hours away (for at least a year) didn't stop us from wanting to be together. We'd make it work. We certainly did.
In December 2008, our second Christmas together, I got a surprise (early) gift. A beautiful ornament to hang on our tree! I went to hang it and found it (actually Adam had to help me) - a diamond ring. We were engaged!
My hiding Christmas present in the tree!!! "What is that?! What is that?!"
WE'RE ENGAGED!!!
Engagement pics - he always makes me laugh...

The current men in my life - Adam and Tressel
Now, as we celebrate our first anniversary while also anticipating our first child, I can't believe how drastically my life has changed and how quickly over the last few years - for the absolute better. I am constantly amazed that I get to wake up next to this man that I love so much. He's the one I get to share all of the ups and downs and lots of laughs with. This is the amazing man that I will get to have next to me as I (we) begin (and work to figure out) motherhood and parenting. This is the man that I will grow old and gray (or in his case, just bald) with as we get to tell over again the story of how we met and fell in love.
I love you, Adam. Happy Anniversary.
Love, Gigi
